Captains Meeting

THAT Captains:

This information will serve as the captain’s meeting. Because we’re not having a meeting on Saturday morning please plan on being at your assigned field ready to play at 9:00am. It takes 2.5 hours to get to Wenatchee from Seattle/Spokane. If your first game starts at 9am you should probably leave Seattle at 6:00am.

I will try to be brief as there is a lot of information already on the web site including directions and schedules. Please forward this page to your teams.

My cell number is 509-860-2365, if something should come up and you need to reach me.

Party: The party is also at Club Crow in Cashmere. We will have an $800 tab that can be accesed by wearing the bracelets I will pass out to each team Sat. morning.  It is a bar so you will need to be 21 to enter.  Sorry for those of you that this affects.  Let me know if there is a group of non-21ers that need a place to go.

Schedules: The schedule of play is here. There will be five rounds of pool play on Saturday (four games and a bye). The 5th round is a crossover game with a team from the other pool.   On Sunday there will be an 8 team single elimination bracket seeded based on the results of Saturday's games.  All 8 teams will be seeded 1-8 (as aposed to reseeding each pool). Seeding will be done based on:

1. Win/Loss Record
2. Head to Head
3. Win/Loss Record against common oponents
4. Point Differential against common opponents
5. Total Point Differential
6. Total Points Scored

There will be consolation games for those who loose in the first round, as well as a 3rd/4th place game if everyone is up for it.

Fields: The fields are located at Foothills Middle School. Please, please, please keep your clothes on and your drinks hidden. These fields are school district property and we get the fields for free. Fields in Wenatchee are extremely hard to reserve. If we lose the fields because of your negligence you will be held responsible and not invited back.  The school district has a policy of no dogs on the fields.  The city patrols the fields and hands out tickets. You have been warned.

Food: There will be the regular fare at Disc Central, fruit, chips & salsa, etc. There will be water but please bring a water bottle already filled to cut down on the amount of water we have to provide.

Showers: These will be available after play on Saturday night from 4:30-7:00pm at the field site. There are only a few showers at the campground.

Spirit: Please leave your bad spirit at home.  This isn't the finals of the UPA Club Championships, it's Wenatchee.  If anyone continually violates the spirit of the game they will not be invited back.

Tournament Rules: We are using the UPA 11th Edition.

UPA 11th Edition rules, including:
   - 20 yard brick
   - Callahan score
   - Mirror half
   - 3 time outs/game - Max of 2/half
   - Saturday all games are to 13
   - Sunday all games are to 15
   - No timeouts once the cap starts

Cap Rule: There will only be a time cap horn blown. When the horn is blown, finish the current point and add two to the highest team's total (unless it exceeds 13/15) and play to that score. First one to that score wins; win by one. As soon as the point has been scored the next point starts. The next horn will be the start of the next round.
Ratio of men/women, 4/3 or 3/4, is decided by the offense before the pull. Please be nice. Don't abuse this rule on teams that don't have many women.

Here are the substantive changes of the rules from 10th to 11th edition.

Places to Eat: There are at least three Starbuck’s in town. There is a new one right when you enter town from Highway 2 on the left, one at the Albertson’s just past Maple St., and still another at the Safeway farther up Miller. There are plenty of Mexican eateries, El Abuelo (on Mission St.), El Porton (in East Wenatchee), Tequila’s (on Wenatchee Ave.) and three pretty decent pubs, McGlinn’s (on Orondo), The Apple Wood Grill (down by the river on Columbia), and The Raven (on Wenatchee Ave.). Good breakfast can be had a The Wild Huckleberry (Mission), but it’s somewhat small, Shari's (as you enter town), and McGlinn's (on Orondo).  Lemolo’s Café is good for dinner (on Wenatchee Ave.) as well as The Wok About Grill (Mongolian Grill on Wenatchee Ave.)  Ask any of the locals for the beta on places to go.

Weather: It's looking like mid 80's with a few clouds, but it is spring so be prepared for swings in temperature and lots of sun or lots of rain.  There will be plenty of water but not a lot of shade at the fields.  Don't forget your sunscreen and sunhat.  Here is the current forecast.

Hospital:
There is a hospital about a mile and a half away from the fields. Go back to Wenatchee Ave. and turn right. This turns into Miller St. Follow Miller St. until you see the hospital on the left. There is also a clinic on Chelan Ave. Go back to Wenatchee Ave. and turn right, get in the left lane and turn left onto Chelan by the McDonald's. The clinic is on the right just past ninth street.

Disc Golf:  There is a small disc golf course just up the road from the fields, about 1/2 mile.  Just continue up Maple St and you'll see it on the right.  It's nine holes and you could probably play the whole thing on your bye.  Hole #1 is in the southwest corner of the park.

That’s all I've got for right now. If you have any questions or you see something that I didn’t cover please let me know.

See ya on Saturday!
